A classically trained cellist, Rae has been performing with Carlile since 2015, but she’s also been steadily releasing her own material, including her third and most fully realized album, Ten Thousand Years, out on August 7. It’s an intimate alt-folk slow burn, and Rae’s dusky, lilting alto—inescapably reminiscent of Joni Mitchell or Cat Power—is a perfect aesthetic fit. - Charleston Magazine

'She is tough love. She is the final gust that pushes the boat over the wave.' - American Songwriter

'Her first two, 2014′s instrumental, improvised Stories From the Marrow and 2017′s heady Bring Us to New Islands, are drastically different than Years, a bonafide, lyrics-forward folk record born out of Rae’s experience as part of Brandi Carlile’s touring band. Carlile’s tour bus and band members provided Rae with an atmosphere to reflect and write, and as it turns out, she had a lot to say.' - Interview with Jordan Mainzer

'Sam Rae, the soul behind some of the most recognizable cello parts in Americana, is a compelling artist in her own right, and it’s a solid bet that she’ll gain a bevy of new fans with her luminous third album “Ten Thousand Years,” slated for an August 7th release.' - Country Queer
